Solve Time Value of Money Problems

Finance is a math-oriented subject matter and every course in finance must incorporate an element of problem solving into at least some assignments. In this assignment, you will solve and then evaluate several time value of money problems.

Time value of money is perhaps one of the most powerful concepts in the entire world. Literally, trillions of dollars of securities trade hands every day and the price that all of these transactions sell for is determined using the time value of money. Time value of money (henceforth, TVM) influences countless numbers of people, every day of their lives (whether they realize it or not):

Have you ever taken out a loan (auto, house, credit card, student loan, etc.)? How is the monthly payment determined? TVM!
How is payoff on a loan at any point in time determined? TVM!
The total value of all debt outstanding in the U.S. at the end of 2014 was in excess of $150 trillion!!! Over $900 billion of debt securities trade hands in the U.S. every DAY!!! All debt values are determined by TVM!
Do you own any stock? Approximately, 54% of all U.S. households (i.e., over 64 million people) own stock in some form (either in individual companies, mutual funds, 401K pension or retirement accounts). The total value of all stocks in the U.S. at end of 2014 was in excess of $125 trillion! The average daily trading value of stocks in the U.S. is over $250 billion! All stock values and prices are determined by TVM!
Insurance companies use TVM to determine what to charge for premiums.
Lease and rental companies use TVM to determine rates.
Basically 100% of all corporations in the U.S. use TVM to make capital budgeting (i.e., long-term investment) decisions. These decisions include issues such as building a new factory, bringing a new product to the market, expanding into new markets, opening new stores, R&D spending, and so forth.
Note that detailed solutions to all odd numbered problems in Higgins (2015) are provided at the end of the book (beginning on page 405). For this assignment, you must recalculate the answers for all problems in question 1 of Chapter 7 (pages 282-283) with a specific value altered. You must then provide a written logical explanation for why the calculated values are different.

Redo all of the Time Value of Money problems in question 1 (i.e., parts a, b, c, d, e, f, g and i – omit h) assuming that the interest rate is 6% and then again assuming that the interest rate is 10%. Thus, you will have solutions to each of these problems with interest rates of 6%, 8% (given in the book), and 10%. For each question (i.e., parts a, b, c, d, e, f, g, and i), insert a table into your Word file that lists the question number, the answer with a rate of 6%, the answer with a rate of 8% and the answer with a rate of 10%. Then, for EACH questions (i.e., parts a, b, c, d, e, f, g and i), provide a brief written logical explanation/statement for why the values you calculated for an interest rate of 6% and an interest rate of 10% is either greater than or less than the answer where the interest rate is 8%.
Do the same for all of the Rate of Return problems in question 1 other than questions n and o (i.e., parts j, k, l and m), but assume that for each question the number of years is 1 less than the number in the problem and then that the number of years is 1 greater than the number of years in the problem (for example, for question j, compute the answer assuming that the investment returns $61,000 in 49 years and then the answer assuming that the investment returns $61,000 in 51 years; you will then compare the IRR for 49 years, 50 years, and 51 years).
Do the same for all of the bank loan, bond, and stock problems (i.e., parts p, q, r, and s) assuming that the interest rate is 6% and then again assuming that the interest rate is 10% (note that the solutions at the end of the book assume an interest rate of 8%). Provide a brief written logical explanation/statement for your answers as in Part 1.
Length: 4-6 pages, excluding title page and any references that you use

Your explanations for each question part should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect graduate-level writing and APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

research proposal

You are expected to develop a research proposal. A research proposal provides the background, the issues (research problems and questions), the theoretical base, the methodology and the timeline of the research. In this assignment you are required to focus on the general concept of ‘customer satisfaction’ in the Singapore context.

For this assessment your discussion must include:

 An introduction that sets the scene and informs the reader of the specific topic within customer satisfaction to be addressed in your discussion.

 Some background information of the context, for example information about a specific field (e.g. hotel, restaurant, transport, theme park etc.) in Singapore, including statistics. Use databases like the Marketline/Mintel to access such reports on the industry.

 A brief literature review should be presented; this should highlight the main theories and concepts associated with this topic. The literature should be clearly linked to the critical issues under discussion. Highlight the main debates and gaps around the issue of customer satisfaction, clearly indicating how your study would address these gaps. Your discussion must clearly identify a specific issue that your study will be addressing concerning customer satisfaction and justify why this issue is pertinent and worth researching further. Credit will be given for originality of the research idea and clearly defined scope and research boundaries

 You are required to read peer reviewed academic journals and other similar resources to identify the theoretical debates and gaps around customer satisfaction. Some useful journal articles have been listed in the module outline; do ensure that you read these as well as other relevant ones.

 Once you have clearly identified the gaps in the literature you must clearly state the research objectives and the research questions that will be addressed by your study (3-5 of them). These must be clearly derived from the gaps noted in the literature.

 You must also provide suggested potential theoretical contributions that could emerge from your study, based on the gaps that you are addressing. Ensure that the significance and rationale for the research is clearly explained and there is evidence of originality in developing a potential research topic. Also indicate the significance of your study to other stakeholders; for example why is your study important for managers or policy makers?

 You also need to suggest the research method (s) that would be used for the study, and clearly justify why you choose them, and then conclude the assignment.

 You are required to devise a timeline showing the research activities with a reasonable period of time. This timeline can be in various forms, e.g. a table or a Gantt chart.

 The Harvard referencing style must be used throughout the paper, and a list of all the references used provided at the end of the paper. Poor referencing will be penalized.

 You may include an appendices section to provide any supporting information you find pertinent, such as data/charts/statistics. However appendices must not exceed 3 pages at the most.

Civil War

The United States went through dramatic economic change during and after the Civil War, as industrialization spread rapidly and changed society. This transformation and some of the apparent abuses that developed led to an increased role of the government in regulating businesses and society. This role was heightened as government was viewed as the arbiter between business and organized labor. One can explore these developments from 1865 on through to World War II. Take one of the positions as suggested below, draw from the sources listed, and present a paper with specific examples and arguments to demonstrate the validity of your position.
Possible position—in each case you can take the pro or con position:
From the Progressive era through the New Deal period, political interventions generally tended to favor big corporations and hurt the common workers, leading to economic instability. (or you can argue that they helped the workers and promoted economic stability)
From 1865 to 1940, the development of labor unions was generally a negative force leading to economic disruption and unnecessary laws that stifled businesses and hindered job growth. (or you can take the position that labor unions had a necessary function and generally positive impact)
From 1865 to 1940, expansion west was devastating to Native American culture, but government policies promoted economic growth in these territories and generally equal opportunities to the settlers. (or you can take the position that government policies did not promote those benefits in those new areas)
After giving general consideration to your readings so far and any general research, select one of the positions above as your position—your thesis. (Sometimes after doing more thorough research, you might choose the reverse position. This happens with critical thinking and inquiry. Your final paper might end up taking a different position than you originally envisioned.) Organize your paper as follows, handling these issues:
The position you choose (from the list above)—or something close to it—will be the thesis statement in your opening paragraph.
To support your position, use four specific examples from different decades between 1865 and 1940.
Explain why the opposing view is weak in comparison to yours.
Consider your life today: In what way does the history you have shown shape or impact issues in your workplace or desired profession?

Length:
The paper should be 600-to-850 words in length. This normally means 3-to-4 pages for the body of the paper. (The title page and References page do not count in these calculations.) Double-space between lines. Format instructions are below.

movie review

Re-watch the movie from your Communication Practicum Project then select three 10 minute scenes (different from the previous week, where you looked at listening) and evaluate one 10 minute scene and focus on the Verbal Messages. Then focus on the second 10 minute scene and focus on the Non-Verbal Messages. Finally, evaluate the third scene and compare and contract Verbal Messages vs. Non-Verbal Messages.

Use the following hints to help you organize your work:

Briefly describe the scene, the characters and the situation.
Using quotes from the movie, analyze the language used. Use material from the book to help you break down the use of language.
Evaluate the body language, or non-verbal communication from the characters. Utilize at least 3 non-verbal elements from the reading.
Cite each element, and then explain how the non-verbal behavior was either effective or ineffective.

Reducing Turnovers

Throughout the years, acceptable turnover rates have been debated. In 2007, Bernadette Kenny, a writer for Forbes, stated that acceptable turnover rates are those that fall below 15%. This 15% turnover rate, even to date, has remained a good indicator of whether or not recruitment, selection, and retention efforts have been effective.

At the end of 2016, it was noted that your organization had a turnover rate of 40% among new hires. This turnover rate was extremely alarming and has in return cost your organization a great deal of money. The Chief Executive Officer of your company sees many problems with this turnover rate and thus would like you (the Human Resource Director) to provide a 2- to 3-page memo of the following:

What improvements can be made to the hiring process, even before recruitment begins?
What methods of recruitment can be utilized to effectively select the right candidates?
What issues has your company run into in regards to recruiting employees?
Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length, not including the title or references pages, with support from 2-3 scholarly sources.

Risk Mapping

The purpose of this assignment is to afford students an opportunity to formally apply the skills of project shaping and risk assessment. Students will learn to analyze a project’s goals incorporating an (end) user-centered project design protocol (scenario modelling). Students will then take the work product from the scenario modelling and assess, prioritize, and map the risks that might confront their project. The final stage will be to develop a contingency plan in light of the identified risks and prioritized project goals.

APEA Study Plan for Board Sucess

Purpose: Develop your final certification success study plan from a review of your APEA Predictor Exam 2. You will be reviewing this plan with your Certification Success Coach in a live one on one session.

Directions: Create an APA formatted paper for Post-test Evaluation plan, please detail the following in an essay format and include all of the following:

Time to take the test: Explain the experience of taking the assessment test; how long did it take, did you have enough time, what were the questions like.
What did you learn from the experience of taking the assessment?
Evaluation of lowest areas: which were the lowest areas on your assessment. Identify the areas below the 70% score. These are the areas that are priority study areas for you.
Next, look at the domains of the test, which is your lowest, why do you think you scored as you did? What do you need to do to raise your scores?
Evaluation of the highest areas: which were the highest areas on your assessment. Identify the areas above the 70% score. These are the areas that you are strongest in. Next, look at the domains of the test, which is your highest, why do you think you scored as you did?
Develop a plan of study, using course materials.

Canadian CSOs

– In this assignment, you will examine the work of Canadian CSOs in another part of the world, assessing to what extent their work employs a charity versus a social justice approach. Your assignment is to compare and contrast two Canadian organizations and their work in one particular country, and to consider how their work responds to one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

1) Learn about the UN’s SDGs (https:// sustainabledevelopment.un.org/ ?menu=1300), and choose one of the SDGs as the main focus of your assignment.

2) Learn about the Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) by examining its website (www.ccic.ca). Over many years, the CCIC has developed a guiding framework for its member organizations meant to reflect the social justice aspirations of Canadian civil society in the area of international development. To learn more, pay particular attention to the “About Us” tab, specifically to the CCIC’s “Code of Ethics and Operational Standards” and its “10-point Agenda” (originally adopted in 2008 and reconfirmed in 2017 as its “guiding framework”), and to the “What we do” tab.

3) Choose two Canadian organizations that are members of the CCIC to examine for this assignment (there are more than 80 organizations to choose from). The Member Organizations are listed under the “members” tab on the CCIC homepage. You will find links to the organizations’ own websites there. You need to find two organizations that work in the same country doing comparable work, i.e. work that responds to the same SDG.

4) Examine the websites of the two organizations. Consider how they conform to the standards and agenda of the CCIC. Also, assess the work they do in the country of your choosing in light of the UN Sustainable Development Goal(s) on which you are focused and in light of the standards and agenda set by the CCIC. Compare and contrast these organizations and their work.

5) Find a recent independent source (a newspaper, blog, etc.) that you consider reliable (recall SPARK) and that addresses the issue(s), country and/or organizations you have examined. Cite this source and reference it in your analysis. How does this source affect your view of the two organizations and their work?

6) Read one academic article from those listed below that discuss the concept of civil society and the role of civil society organizations. How does this source affect your view of the two organizations and their work? Use the author’s ideas to further analyze the work of the two organizations you are considering. Cite this source and reference it in your analysis.

7) Read one article from the list below that discusses the differences and similarities of a charity approach versus a social justice approach. Think about whether you see the work of the CSOs you have considered as classic “charity”, i.e. trying to “help” without thought to how their work conforms to the tenets of social justice and undoing-oppressions. Cite this source and reference it in your analysis.

-Your essay requires a clear thesis regarding the extent to which the CSOs fit under the ‘charity model’ versus the ‘social justice model’. It should also provide the reader with a coherent review of the study and analysis you have conducted by going through the above steps. While it is important to briefly describe aspects of the work of the organizations in order to ground your analysis, remember that the assignment is principally analytical rather than descriptive.

Format: The essay should be typed, double spaced, with 12-point font and one inch margins. Be sure to type your name, student number, your TA’s name, and tutorial time at the top of the first page. Also put the word count in bold. You may be penalized if the essay exceeds the preferred length of 800 WORDS! Remember that the bibliography does not count as part of the total word count. The essay will be marked for both content and writing style. Please re-read, proofread, and revise your work before turning it in. Don’t forget to use spell-check.
