Your Task: For this assignment, you will compare/contrast two of the course readings, juxtaposing the two authors’ positions on the same issue. You will analyze how well one author presented an argument in comparison to the other author, looking at the writing strategies, such as: what kind of evidence they used/ how effective the evidence was at supporting their arguments (ex – scientific research studies versus personal experience); their tone; their voice (use of first person pronouns versus third person pronouns); the authors’ credibility as “experts”; audience awareness; organization (order of how points are given, topic sentences, connections between points and paragraphs, etc.); language use (ex – transition words to help guide the reader);

Decision Making and Framing Process Your organization is located in one of the largest metropolitan areas of the nation. Your organization hosts and supplies services to all the courts in the United States, including Guam and Puerto Rico. The power grid in your building is no longer able to handle the demand of power. They need to be relocated to other areas. The proposed areas are San Diego and Ashburn, Virginia. It would be more economical to fork-lift the entire server rooms at once to the proposed locations as opposed to moving a few pieces at a time. Additionally, the vendor who designs and installs the servers at the new locations is rigid on the due dates for receiving the planning drawings and will only build the designs per drawing specifications. Even if the vendor knows something is incorrect, they only build per written and signed off specifications. A consultant on the project knows that something is wrong but he does not notify anyone of the problem. A month later, when another vendor goes to install the power to the servers they notice that the server racks are off. The consultant calls back to the office to notify his supervisor that the vendor will not deliver power and lets it slip out that he knew about the potential problem a month ago. Each time the power vendor goes to the location, it costs more than $23,000 per day, full day’s work or not. The supervisor is angry because this could have been corrected over one month ago. Based on the scenario described above, create a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document that includes: An explanation of how you would handle the given situation. An analysis, identification, and reasoning of the theory that relates to this scenario. A description of how the framing process could affect this situation and whether things have turned around to the positive side. An analysis, identification, and reasoning for the person accountable for this situation, assuming that firing the consultant is not an option. An analysis and description of the kinds of check lists that should be in place to prevent the situation from happening in the future.

Topic Choice: Comparing Ancient Female Rulers: Compare the Tang Empress Wu Zetian (also known as Empress Wu or as Wu Zhao; ruled China around 690-705 AD) with either the Pharaoh Cleopatra (ruled Egypt around 51-31 BC) or the Pharaoh Hatshepsut (ruled Egypt around 1478-1458 BC). You may also propose (for approval or not) a female ruler not listed. Avoid lengthy quoting or lengthy close paraphrasing from biographical sources. Make it YOUR comparative analysis. Your paper should: a) Compare the two (2) rulers in terms of their situation and ascent to power, their methods of rule, and their achievements and resourcefulness, noting similarities and differences. Use specific examples. b) Consider what your study suggests about the cultures over which they ruled, identifying any similarities and differences between the cultures. c) From this comparison, suggest lessons about different types of effective leadership by a female in the world of modern business and / or modern politics.

Challenge Carl Stratton, a relatively new paramedic employee who had recently moved to the area from a major metropolitan area in another state is challenging the on-call policy. Paramedic Stratton states that services are required to pay at least the minimum wage for on call staffing because they must remain “at the ready” to respond to the Base within 5 minutes of being called. Based on reading in this document (Link to document) and any other sources that you obtain, describe how you would handle the challenge from Carl Stratton. Do you agree or disagree with his position?

The essay assignment for this week is to compose a paper of at least 750 words in which you offer your interpretation of a key theme in one of the assigned poems. You may choose any poem from the reading list except for “The Chimney Sweeper.” If you wish, you may base your paper on the analysis you began in this week’s discussion question. If you get “stuck,” read your chosen poem again with a pen in hand so you can make notes. Do not hesitate to share your initial ideas with your classmates and the instructor.

Society has evolved over the last century causing organizations to change with the times. This evolution has, in turn, required workers to “re-tool” to be a productive and indispensable member of the workforce. Using this lead-in as the context, describe the workforce shifts in types of jobs during the past hundred years. Also, answer the over-arching question, “What implications have these workforce shifts created for today’s HR manager?
