The differences and similarities should be based on the experiences of Native Americans and white Americans or pertaining to both of these cultures’ stances on an issue you have chosen. You must base your comparison/contrast on one aspect of culture as it was expressed through Crazy Horse and Custer: The Parallel Lives of Two American Warriors. The object of this paper is to clearly present one cultural issue, the two stances on the issue, and then discussion of what you are learning. Think about what you are reading and analyze it in your own way.

4 pages (minimum 300 WORDS EACH). Must have a thesis statement.

This is my thesis statement: “The dominant white European American lifestyle values conflicted with the Lakota Sioux causing the latter to be forced onto reservations.”

Then turn the thesis into a question:

In what ways did the white Euro-American lifestyle conflict with the lifestyle of the Lakota Sioux?

Then discuss the top three that you feel are the strongest reasons.

Consider the description of the Sun Dance on page 417 in the textbook. Contrast it with the descriptions earlier in the book of Custer’s moral teachings as a “Christian Soldier”. Identify the main differences that you see between the way Native Americans and European Americans approach religion. Are there any similarities? How do these very different ways of approaching religion affect the social behavior of Native Americans and of European Americans? Which group do you think is most true to its religious principles, and why? (200 words)

Part Two
How does religion define the way that people live their lives? How does it affect culture? Or, do you think culture affects religion? You may use your own experiences here. Case Study:
Read and complete the questions provided for the manage what scenario #2 on page 158: The Elevator pitch, making your case in a very short time. Make sure to label each question so I know what you are answering. It is very important that you make it obvious to me that you read, understood, and can apply course material – use chapter concepts and provide depth and detail.

The Elevator Pitch: Making Your Case in a Very Short Time
You manage a team of writers for the local newspaper. Your staff is hard working and very willing to put in long hours to make deadlines, but they have to work with electronic equipment that is outdated and commonly crashes. While you recognize that other departments at the paper do similar work and have similar needs, you feel your team needs a little more than their standard allocation for upgrades in this year’s budget. You mention this problem in a meeting with your boss, and she replies, “Well, your timing is perfect. I’m on my way to a budget meeting upstairs on the 18th floor. Why don’t you take the elevator with me and give me what I need to present to the budget committee, and I’ll see if I can convince them to increase your allocation.”
What key strategies should you follow in creating and delivering your pitch? Are there any “must-dos” you should con- sider if you want to be persuasive? What common mistakes should you try to avoid?

The topic of epistemology

Use the four-step course methodology of understanding, analysis, evaluation, and application to develop your thesis.
Then provide arguments both in support of and in opposition to your thesis. Use examples from the textbook and outside research citing at least three different philosophers/scholars.
Give your response to these arguments from others. Are they valid? Where do they lack validity?
Summarize your findings in the conclusion. Did your beginning thesis statement on epistemology/knowledge hold true?
Key words- truth, hermeneutics, Rationalism, Empiricism
