Guidelines for Position Paper Abstract

The topic of the final position paper is entirely your choice. Choose a Science, Technology and Society related topic that you are interested in. Primary reasons for choosing a topic should be:

1. you are interested in it,
2. you have found a significant amount of information on this topic
3. it is a recent topic (last 5 years), and
4. it has been approved by the instructor.

Potential Position paper topics:

1.If people have genetic testing, who has the right to that information? Should healthcare companies and employers have access to that information?

2.Since it is now possible to sequence human genes to find out about possible future heath risks, is that something everyone should have done? What are the advantages or disadvantages?

3.Is organic food really better for you than genetically modified foods?

4.What are genetically modified food technologies able to do? How does this compare with traditional plant breeding methods?

5.Should genetically modified food technologies be used to solve hunger issues?

6.When does it become morally wrong to genetically engineer your child?

7.What are the potential benefits and risks of stem cell research?

Making sense of the research

Answer each of the following questions after listening to the podcast for this unit and reading the “Making sense of the research” section. Use complete sentences and references to reinforce your position. The direct link provides a transcript of the following podcasts.

1. What is a fabricator?

2. What are the advantages of FabAtHome, compared with industrial fabricators? What are the disadvantages?

3. What does “open source” mean? How does it apply to FabAtHome?

Managing Change

This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes 1 and 3:

1. Evaluate a sample of a business text by undertaking a critical discourse analysis.
3. Critically discuss a range of social processes involved in managing change.

This assignment requires you to carry out the following 2 tasks:
1. Produce a critical discourse analysis of the speech by the Group Chairman of HSBC Douglas Flint available on Moodle. [about 1300 words]
As a core reference, use McCabe, D. (2016) ‘Numericalizing the other: A critical analysis of a strategy discourse in a UK bank.’ Organization 23(4), 525-549. Select further academic journal articles and other reliable sources for your answer.

2. Propose an alternative discourse in the form of a letter from the bank’s employees to its CEO, re-presenting the approach to Change from the employees’ perspective, and drawing the CEO’s attention to relevant social processes. You need to comment on some of the topics the CEO raises in his speech. For the purpose of this exercise, you may assume that the letter is addressed to the Group Chairman of HSBC, Douglas Flint. [about 500 words]

I will upload all the information which is associated with this coursework later.

healthcare

The dynamic and increasingly complex world of healthcare often requires nurses to work collaboratively on interprofessional teams. In the group environment, individuals with unique skills and expertise come together to focus on a common goal; however, groups must become cohesive before they can become effective.

Your experiences working with groups—whether you perceive them as positive, negative, or neutral—can be used to facilitate insight and development. Healthcare, with its focus on interprofessional teamwork and collaboration, offers ample opportunities and an imperative for continuous learning.

For this Discussion, you focus on strategies for facilitating the group process.

To Prepare:

• Review the information in this week’s Learning Resources regarding the stages of group formation, problematic roles individuals play in groups and strategies for facilitating and maintaining positive group collaboration. In particular, review Learning Exercise 19.14 of the course text.
• Reflect on various groups with which you have been or are currently involved. Select one specific group to analyze for the purposes of this Discussion. Identify the purpose or task that the group is or was meant to perform.
• Consider the four stages of group formation (forming, storming, norming, and performing). How would you describe the progression between stages? Is there a stage in which you believe your group is or was “stuck”?
• Consider the task or group-building role you normally play in a group setting. How could you apply the information from the Learning Resources to improve your group participation and facilitation, as well as the functioning of the group as a whole?
• In addition, think about which individuals within your group (including yourself) may fall into problematic roles such as the Dominator, the Aggressor, or the Blocker. How have you and your group members addressed the enactment of these roles and its impact on interactions? With information from the Learning Resources in mind, what strategies would you apply now or going forward?

To Complete:

1) Write a description of a group with which you have been or are currently involved (INFECTION CONTROL).
2) Assess where the group is in terms of the four stages of group formation. If you are reflecting on a past experience, explain if your group moved through all four stages.
3) Describe the task or group-building role you typically play, or played, in this group.
4) Then, explain what strategies you, as a leader, can apply to better facilitate the group process and address any problematic individual roles in the group.

wine coolers

Three hundred consumers between 21 and 49 years old were randomly selected. After sampling a new wine cooler, each was asked to rate the appeal of the phrase: “Not sweet like wine coolers, not filling like beer, and more refreshing than wine or mixed drinks” as it relates to the new wine cooler. The rating was made on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 representing “extremely appealing” and with 1 representing “not at all appealing”.

As a manager overseeing the development of the concept, you bottle the wine cooler and placed it into distribution in one test store.

Your manager has asked you to assess the data and determine the most likely customer based on the ratings. Additionally, your manager would like you to review sales in the test store.

Use the Week 3 Data Set to create and calculate the following in Excel®:

Estimate the probability that a randomly selected 21 to 49 year old consumer:
Would give the phrase a rating of 5
Would give the phrase a rating of 3 or higher
Is in the 21-24 age group
Is a male who gives the phrase a rating of 4
Is a 35 to 49 year old who gives the phrase a rating of 1
Based on the probabilities for the ratings of 4 and 5, which age/gender demographic would be the best target audience for the new concept?
Create a probability distribution using the data which shows how many cartons of the wine cooler were bought per customer in a month.
Calculate the mean and the standard deviation of your probability distribution.
Calculate the probability that exactly 3 six packs will be bought in a month.
Calculate the probability that between 4 and 8 six packs will be bought in a month.
Calculate the probability that at least 5 six packs will be bought in a month.
Calculate the probability that no more than 5 six packs will be bought in a month.
Create a relative frequency distribution based on the wine cooler drinking temperatures.
Create 6 bins with the same interval in each.
Create a histogram
Considering the mean and standard deviation for the ideal drinking temperature:
Calculate z values then refer to Table 6.1 – Cumulative Areas Under the Standard Normal Curve
Calculate the probability of the wine cooler being less than 45 degrees.
Calculate the probability of the wine cooler being greater than 60 degrees.
Calculate the percentage of wine coolers served at the ideal temperature, between 49 and 55 degrees.
