“One of the current issues in the United States involves the so-called outsourcing of jobs: the transfer of salaried employment from American to foreign locations. Many economists say that this is a logical outgrowth of globalization, that it involves comparatively few jobs, and that it helps U.S. companies survive competition to which they might otherwise succumb –costing more jobs that the outsourcing did in the first place. India has become a major player in the outsourcing of certain jobs…
•“What are these jobs?” …
•“Where in India do they cluster and why?” …
•“Do language and/or time-zone location have anything to do with India’s success, and if so, how?” (de Blij and Muller 2010: 453)

After reading this chapter of the textbook, write an essay based on these questions. Most of your essay must be written using your own words only. You must also include a complete reference of the source/s you have used at the end of your essay, including the course textbook (a complete reference of this source is available in the course syllabus and at the end of this prompt).

Remember that there are no right or wrong answers, but you must present an argument that supports and/or rejects your position regarding this topic, applying the concepts learned in our course. Most importantly, your essay must be composed using your own words, and use key definitions related to the topic of this assignment, showing knowledge and command of this topic. Explain your answer in NO less than 500 words and no more than 800 words. This word count does not include your name, PID, the title of your work, or if you copy the questions in your work.

In case you use an external source, you must cite this/these source/s in the text, using parenthesis at the end of the sentence using quotation marks if it is a direct quote, include the last name/s of the author/s, year of publication and the page number (i.e., Neumann 2013: 63). If you are using an external source writing this information in your own words, then you must cite at the end of the sentence, using parenthesis, the last name/s of the author/s and the year of publication (i.e., Neumann and Price 2013). All sources cited in your essay must also be included in a separate page on a Bibliography/Reference section at the end of your essay. See note at the end of this file regarding plagiarism issues.

You must post your answer to this question by uploading your work to the Turnitin.com link provided before the deadline to receive full credit.

NOTE # 1: Late work will be accepted but will incur in a 10-point deduction for each week this is late. No late work will be accepted after Thursday, July 26.

NOTE # 2: Your answer must be your own, original thoughts. If you plagiarize your thoughts from a website, journal, or any other source, not only you will be sad because you cannot write the small number of words of your own, but because you will also earn a failing grade in the course.

NOTE # 3: You must format your work according to the required Technical Aspects described in the course syllabus: a) 12-point font (Arial, Times New Roman, Garamond, or Book Antiqua); one-inch margins all around; double-spaced; and, number the pages. Any written assignment that does not include all the required technical aspects will receive a 10-point deduction in their grade.

The Debate over Slavery

The Debate over Slavery

In the 1820s, 1830, and 1840s, the Second Great Awakening helped to inspire a reformist impulse across the nation. One of those movements centered on an effort to abolish slavery in the United States; of course, the desire to eliminate slavery did not go unchallenged. In this activity, you will examine the views of antislavery (abolitionist) and proslavery writers in the antebellum years. This essay will help you better understand a controversy that permeated American life in the years leading up to the Civil War.

Required Readings

Read the following pro- and anti-slavery documents

Pro-Slavery
George Fitzhugh Advocates Slavery
Disease and Peculiarities of the Negro Race
James Henry Hammond Advocates Slavery
Abolitionists
David Walker’s Appeal
Frederick Douglass, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”
The American Anti-Slavery Society: Declaration of Sentiments
Focus Questions
Consider these questions as you read through the above sources (ALL of these questions need to be addressed in your essay):

Proslavery authors
1. How do these authors justify slavery?
2. According to these authors, what place do slaves have in society?
3. What derisive stereotypes of African Americans are found in these proslavery documents?

Abolitionist authors
1. Why do they believe slavery needs to be abolished?
2. What specific criticisms do they have about American society?
3. How do these authors view African Americans (in contrast to the stereotypes offered by proslavery authors)? How do the authors view African Americans place in society?

Directions
Your essay should be a minimum of 2 pages, and you should spend AT LEAST one page discussing EACH position (one page discussing the proslavery perspective and one page discussing the abolitionist perspective). Remember, two pages is the minimum, and minimum essays normally score a C. If you want a higher grade, plan to be comprehensive in your coverage of the readings (there is no maximum page limit). Your answer should reflect the main points from each assigned reading, and ALL of the above readings should be addressed in your essay. Use examples from the readings to illustrate your main points.

Be sure to proof your essay before submitting it as errors in grammar and spelling will lead to a deduction in points. Use quotations when using the exact wording from the reading and cite the reading at the end of the sentence [ex: if you quoted from the Walker reading, simply put (Walker) at the end of the reading – this lets me know which reading the quote is taken from]. As per the instructions in the syllabus, most of the essay should be in your own words and include your own analysis of the readings. I would encourage you to re-read the section in the syllabus that addresses expectations for essays.

When you write your essay, don’t just go reading by reading; rather, see what common themes are found in the readings for both perspectives and write paragraphs based on themes rather than examining each reading individually. Yes, this requires more thought, but then your essay won’t read like an extended book report on each article. If you have any questions, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to help.

Use only the above sources for this assignment: DO NOT USE ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT. If you do, you will receive a “0” for the assignment. Your essay should be uploaded as Word document (no PDF files).

Let me conclude with a comment about the content of these readings. The first set of readings that discuss the proslavery perspective can make for difficult reading. Simply put, they can offend our modern sensibilities with their perspective on race. The goal of this assignment is to provide you with a historical context of how people viewed race and slavery in the 19th century, so sometimes it is necessary to read offensive documents like this to understand why people acted and behaved the way they did in the past. Please know that by discussing these documents, it in no way means that you approve or support what they say; rather, you are doing exactly what historians do — learn about the past and make observations based on available evidence.

Essays should each be two-three full typewritten pages in length, approximately 600-750 words in 12-point type. Please use Times New Roman font. Use 1-inch margins on all sides.
Essays are to be written following the rules of correct grammar and spelling, both of which will be taken into consideration in the evaluation of the essay. Be sure to proofread your essays as grammar and spell checks typically do not catch words used in incorrect contexts.
Essays must be original and analytical and must be careful to include well-thought-out responses to the questions posed in the assignment.
You must give specific examples from the sources used in the development of the paper and must cite these sources following the University of Chicago Press’s Chicago Manual of Style or Kate L. Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations. A minimum of three sources is required. Refer to the online resources Turabian and Chicago Styles Citations. Historians use Chicago Style Footnotes for citations and that is the only acceptable method for this class. You should use footnotes and provide a full bibliography at the end of your paper. Your bibliography and footnotes do not count towards word count.
If you use direct quotations, you must not only cite your source, but must also use quotation marks.

Project Pland Inception

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a project introduction and a Gantt chart or project plan. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment for which it is written. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.
You have been made the Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer (CIO / CTO) of an innovative e-Commerce start-up company that a venture capital group has funded. The CEO has given you sixty (60) days to deliver an information technology project plan in anticipation of the company locating to a new facility. Fig Technologies Executive Leadership Council

the comprehensive report was presented to the Fig Technologies Executive Leadership Council (ELC). You have
the option to create a video OR PowerPoint presentation that summarizes your findings based on the comprehensive
report. In the presentation of your findings, be sure to describe advances in organizational diversity developed from
legislation, and explain paradigm shifts in the Fig Technologies organizational environment from increased diversity
legislation. Include citations and references from at least three sources used in your presentation (these may be from the
earlier components).
The video option should be three to five minutes in length, using a YouTube channel or equivalent. Include charts or graphics
as necessary to effectively present your findings. If choosing this option, upload a document with the link to your video and a
transcript of your video. The document should also include a reference list and citations.
While sources and information from previous assignments are appropriate sources to inform and guide the development of
the video or PowerPoint, this assignment requires original content that demonstrates mastery and understanding of the
course material. Do not simply copy and paste any portions from previous assignments.
The PowerPoint option should consist of a 10-12 slide presentation (not including the title and reference slides) with proper
APA formatting. Include charts or graphics as necessary to effectively present your findings.

Age Demographics

The Fig Technologies Executive Leadership Council (ELC) has asked you to compile a report regarding the age
demographics within the organization. Your findings are that employees between the ages of 18 to 25 comprise 11% of the
workforce, employees 26 to 39 comprise 31%, employees 35 to 55 comprise 34%, employees 56 to 69 compose 18%, and
the remainder are age 69 and above. You have been asked to compile a report regarding the advantages and disadvantages
of developing a younger workforce in both professional and nonprofessional positions as well as for older employees 65 and
above. Be sure to discuss age legislation and how this will affect any decisions the company may face. You must include a
minimum of one outside resource for this component. This component of the report should be one to two pages included
into the final report.
The second part of this assignment is to submit the comprehensive research that you have compiled throughout your
consulting contract over the past seven units. You are to provide a comprehensive report of the previous studies. Please
add an executive summary of the steps for improving organizational diversity to the report being submitted to the ELC. The
executive summary should be approximately half of a page. The report is the compilation of the previous project
assignments. Please review these assignments, making any corrections based on instructor feedback. Add any transitions
along with headers and sub-headers. Specific headings and sections should include the following:
Executive Summary,
Fair Treatment of Ethnicities,
Benefits of Organizational Diversity,
Improving Organizational Culture,
Gender and Work-Life Balance, and
Age Demographics.
Your comprehensive report should include a title page and reference page. All sources used, including the textbook, must
be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. All references and citations used must
be in APA style.

Gender and Work-Life Balance

Fig Technologies wants industry research on gender and work-life attitudes to present an overview of the position of project
managers in two geographic areas. You will present this report in a two-page (excluding the title and reference pages)
assessment of the position based on information available. In your report, be sure to address the issues below.
Analyze the demographics of gender in the workplace with regard to position, pay, and expectations.
Explain the advantages and disadvantages of flexible schedules and work responsibilities.
Determine the potential human resources benefits of offering child and elder care in the organization.
Explain work-life balances regarding achieving greater results for the organization.
Support your recommendation through the use of at least two sources, one of which can be the textbook. Content should be
two to three pages in length. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material
must have accompanying citations. All references and citations used must be in APA style.

James Bay Agreement and the North

8 pages or so. 2000 words give or take 100 words. Put the word count on the cover page.
7-10 scholarly sources such as those found in our text books. A few solid books should be included and no internet sources unless they are academic journals or scholarly websites. Most of the research should be from articles, books and printed sources.
The topic should have a specific thesis related to Northern Canada. The body of the essay proves this thesis with research and arguments. Please do not veer off and speak of issues which are not specifically about the “North”-and do not write about a topic which is not about Northern Canada.
3-4 foot or end notes per page is about right. Do not use a series of Ibids as this indicates taking chunks of material from one source as opposed to integrating it into an original essay.

measuring their BMI

A study collected data annually on 200 boys and 200 girls aged between 13 (wave 1) to 16 (wave 4), measuring their BMI and their level of physical exercise, assessed using data from an actigraphy watch that was worn during waking hours for one week (activity of a certain type and of a certain level was classified as ‘exercise’ and the total number of hours classified as exercise for the week of evaluation was totalled per individual). Using data recorded from this study, recorded in the file BMI_Actigrapgy.csv, answer the following research questions using the methods outlined below:
How are BMI and weekly exercise related amongst children aged 13 to 16 years?
What is a hypothetical causal relationship between these longitudinal measures?
What is the evidence in the data you are given that supports this causal hypothesis?
To address this research question, undertake initial descriptive analyses and explore both separate and joint latent growth curve models for each longitudinal measure:
• Provide appropriate summary descriptives of your data. • Produce a separate chart for each longitudinal measure (BMI & weekly Activity) showing the differences by Sex. • Explore a latent growth curve model for each measure separately, modelling explicitly the role of Sex and accounting for autocorrelation as an AR(1) function. • Draw an SEM or DAG, hypothesising on the causal relationship amongst all latent variables – you may draw multiple versions, indicating speculation, but ultimately you must settle on one as your ‘preferred’ causal model. • Jointly model the two longitudinal measures, exploring plausible models as described by your DAG(s); settle on one preferred model that tallies with your preferred DAG. • Summarise the results of your preferred joint model, attributing causal interpretation to model estimates, discussing any caveats. • Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the investigation you have undertaken, making recommendations for future studies.
Write up your findings in a semi-formal structured report: marks are awarded primarily for scientific content, not polish of presentation, but clarity of communication is important to assess your grasp of the methods used and to assess your ability to undertake a complex analysis and interpret the findings appropriately. Your report should not exceed 1500 words. You should assume a statistically technical audience, but describe carefully all the analyses and interpretations of your findings with reference to technical details, where appropriate. The only appendix permitted is your annotated STATA or R code, which must be included. The word limit applies to the main text only, as tables, figures, bibliography, and the annotated software code is not counted.
Marks out of 50 will be awarded as per the following criteria: (a) clarity and understanding in the development and application of your models; (b) clear, well-reasoned interpretation of all your models, including a discussion around caveats, strengths, weaknesses, and possible improvements for future research; (c) overall clarity of presentation and clear language, including appropriate use of (Harvard style) citations and the appendix outlining your analytical code.

bioinformatics

instructions For this assignment you should implement a program in Perl that solves a bioinformatics problem. The problem is described in the section Problem description below. For this assignment you need to provide the following things: • A rough outline that clearly shows how the problem can be broken down into subproblems (3 p) • Pseudo code that describes how the problem can be implemented (4 p) • A Perl program that implements the program according to the instructions given and that produces the requested output (7 p) • In a written report explain how you solved the problem (implementation) (6 p) More details regarding these requirements can be found further down in the instructions. You will also find a grading template for the different parts. Be sure you study this carefully. Problem description
First you should download the file TNF_protein.txt
This file contains information about the human protein Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) in the database GenBank. From this file you should extract and present the following information: Part 1: the accession number, definition of the protein and organism. Part 2: the protein sequence (all amino acids). The extracted information should be saved in a text file, which is also presented in a userfriendly way. That is, the information should be extracted from the rows with irrelevant information removed. This means that an entire row should not be stored without any processing. Only the requested data specified above should be in the results file. Rough outline For this assignment, a rough outline should be made for Part 2 of the assignment. The rough outline should contain input and output information, all required intermediate steps and contain at least three levels (including top box) at some part in the outline. That is, not all parts are required to be represented with three levels, but where it is suitable it should be included. The rough outline shall be described and clearly explained, so it will be easy to understand. Pseudo code For this assignment, pseudo code should be made for Part 2 of the assignment and build upon the rough outline. The pseudo code should follow some accepted standard and be consistent. It should include all parts listed in the problem description. The pseudo code shall be complemented with explanations, so it will be easy to understand.
Implementation Based on the described requirements, make an implementation of Part 1 and 2 in Perl. In the Perl program, explanations should be provided as comments where it is suitable. The Perl program as well as the output from it must be provided in the submission. Written report The approach taken to solve the problem shall be explained in a written report (Wordformat). In the report, clearly describe in text how the problem was addressed and implemented. The report should include both a general overview on how the problem(s) were implemented as well as describe details about chosen variables, subroutines/functions and how the results were stored

Memo for boss about illegal immigration

You are a newly-hired intern hoping to earn your dream job by showing your skills as a critical thinker and analyst. Your boss needs your help. She (or he) has been invited to attend the Allen & Co. annual conference in Sun Valley, Idaho, the annual conference of national leaders and thinkers. Each year, the assembled movers and shakers discuss and debate a number of public and economic policy issues, including several that were under intense debate during the last years.

Your assignment is to pick one of the issues below, research and analyze it, take a position, and then write a persuasive memo that forcefully presents your argument.

You must find at least seven current (2015-2018) sources on your topic. Some should be factual pieces. Others should be opinion articles that clearly take a side.

Use data, expert opinion, quotations, factual information—i.e. strong and varied evidence to support your argument. Understand your position – but take time to understand other points of view, too.

Consider your audience. Tone will be important. Remember that you know more about the subject than your boss. But remember, too, that she is your superior. So, don’t lecture!

***************Your argument should anticipate – and refute – an opponent’s counter-attack.
