Applying Ethical Principles

Some of the ethical principles covered this week deal with the concepts of beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice. Choose one of the following examples and consider how each of these concepts could be applied to your work as an administrator or healthcare professional. Provide examples and how you would manage the situation.

Choose one of these examples:

Treatment of an uninsured homeless patient
Downsizing a department with a 20% reduction in force
Meeting the needs of stockholders to see an adequate profit share
Disciplining a professional who has consistently violated policy for ethical conduct.
Your paper should meet the following requirements:

Be two to three pages in length, not including the cover or reference pages.
Be formatted according to Writing and APA Requirements.
Support your discussion by referencing and citing at least three references with associated in-text citations.
Headings for each of the ethical concepts being discussed to organize the content in your work.

Decision making

Decision making is one of the most important task a leader can do. It consists of identifying issues that require attention, setting goals, and designing a course of action, evaluating, and choosing among alternative actions. Your text discusses two major types of decision- making models. Describe these two models in the Forum. How are they used to make decisions? Which one would you prefer and why?

The CEO’s Challenge

You’ve just left an all hands meeting at your company. The CEO was very upset at the rise of shadow IT
projects a major indicator that the company’s internal information system has failed to meet its needs.

Because the current information system is inadequate, inefficient, and outdated, the CEO is inviting everyone in the organization to propose a new operational, decision support, or enterprise information system to replace it. The executives have allocated $5 million to fund the most promising idea.

This is your chance to make a difference in the company (not to mention your own career). Write your proposal as a memo that the entire C-suite will review. Include at least these points, in your own words, to
be persuasive:

1.Identify the main functions of your proposed information system and why they are important to the
business.
2.Describe what types of data your information system will hold and how data quality will be
ensured.
3.Explain how the old information system handles the functions you mentioned, the problems that
occur, and why your information system will handle things better.
4.Offer evidence of feasibility: Show that similar information systems have been built successfully
and that they save more money than they cost.

The executives are busy, so keep your memo to 1-4 pages and avoid any extraneous content.

Leadership in evidence-based protocols

Identify a topic related to health care and leadership; this will be the subject of your research paper due in week 7. You will then be working to incorporate a leadership theory or approach discussed in this course and apply it to your leadership in healthcare topic in later weeks. Make sure that your leadership in healthcare topic is neither too broad nor too narrow.

Consider some of the following general areas:

Leadership in:

Change management in health care
Technology in health care
Finance of health care
Conflict management in health care
Evidence-based protocols
Gender equality in the workplace
Health sector reform
Embedded safeguards to reduce injury and infection
Please note the above general areas must have a narrower focus in order to work well for a research paper. The list above is not exhaustive, but merely suggestions.

Identify a research area and then develop a thesis statement for your research paper. Ensure your topic is presented in descriptive detail and a clear plan for the research paper is identified. Submit a 1- to 2-page, double-spaced paper identifying your topic in descriptive detail, including a clear plan for your research and a thesis statement.

mid-level organizational managers

1. What are some of the challenges for senior and mid-level organizational managers in a global economy? Provide evidence to support your answer.

2. Based on your experience in your industry, or one with which you are familiar, what do you believe are the top three most important global economic challenges? Why?

Create a 150 word reflective and applied statement describing how the week’s learning has affected your thought processes, development, and professional disposition. This statement should reflect your personal learning process (challenges, moments of discovery, life experiences, and interactions). You may also include questions for the course facilitator regarding material that may still be unclear. Ideally, you will use these reflections throughout the course and the program to document your development as a scholar, practitioner, and leader, and to reflect critically on the changes that occur during this process.

Format any citations and references in your reflective statement consistent with APA guidelines.

Sex Differences in Aggression

his week, you have examined theoretical principles of sex differences in aggression: sexual selection and gender role. For this task, you will reflect on what you have learned about sex differences in aggression. Now assume that you have been asked to prepare an article for an online journal that focuses on aggression and behavior, but first you need to complete an interview with a leading expert in sex differences in aggression. Begin by selecting your expert and complete a mock interview that asks and answers the questions below.

1. Explain sexual selection theory and gender role theory. What are the main principles of each theory? What position is taken by each theory on the origins, development, and causal mechanisms of aggression?

2. Give an example of aggressive behavior that may be explained from the perspective of sexual selection and from the perspective of social role theory that is not covered in the reading.

3. Discuss at least one psychological phenomenon that may influence displays of aggressive behavior as explained by the sexual selection theory and the social roles theory.

Support your interview with at least two references from peer-reviewed journal articles. Remember to cite your information and references in the proper APA format.

the Game Plan

As you journey through this unit and are honing your critical thinking skills, you might recognize many ideas identified in the Game Plan. To assist in your critical thinking process, the Game Plan (located on pages 38-42 in your textbook) was created to help assist you in making critical decisions through the use of 10 strategies.
This assignment calls for you to complete a table that will focus on a recent experience in your life. Within the table, you will identify your experience, how you reacted to the experience, two game-plan strategies that could have changed your outcome, and what the new outcome might have been.
Make sure you address the components listed below:
Describe the situation and why it was important to you.
Describe how you reacted.
Identify two of the strategies identified in the book, and develop critical thinking questions you would ask yourself as a part of your self-assessment.
Include bullet points sharing your decision-making process.
Address the new outcomes/solutions resulting from the integration of these strategies.
