cinematic evidence

Choose ONE of the following and please confine your answer to movies screened in class. Make sure to engage with readings. If you wish, you may refer to unassigned scholarly writing (be sure to cite all readings accurately and consistently). Make sure to back up your claims with cinematic evidence.

1. Discuss the work of comedy directors John Waters or the Farrelly Brothers. Focusing primarily on Serial Mom (if your subject is Waters) or Kingpin (if you choose to write about the Farrellys), identify what you consider to be the primary artistic concerns of the men behind the camera. Does their work reveal a particular outlook or worldview? Please make sure to reference and analyze at least one other movie by your director(s).

2. Killing and death are a leading concern of Serial Mom, Kind Hearts and Coronets, and Sightseers. Unlike slapstick comedies, which present the spectacle of injury, these movies ask us to contemplate the body’s annihilation. Is film comedy equipped to approach this particularly disturbing subject? What can be achieved by the comedic portrayal of death? Discuss these questions with reference to two or more of our films.

3. Fearsome, mentally unstable women are central characters in Serial Mom, Sightseers, and King of Comedy. How does female madness function in one or both of these comedy films?

4. Male suffering, failure, and humiliation are integral to Kingpin, King of Comedy, Sightseers, and This is Spinal Tap. Why does the film comedy repeatedly offer such spectacles? Discuss at least two of our movies in your answer.

As the café’s popularity is growing, Anna is considering purchasing another coffee machine to streamline customers better; especially at 10 am and 3 pm since customers only have a few minutes to order and receive their coffee; ultimately she doesn’t want to lose potential sales or to create a reputation for slow service.

.
Part C Task/description:
Background
Using the case study (Somby’s Café) as your guide, Anna needs to have some Human Resource (HR) documents developed which will help her make employment decisions. She also has a couple of ideas which she would like your thoughts on.
Description
1. Write a generic job description for the front-of-house staff, using a table format.
2. Based on the needs and/or ideas identified in the Somby’s Café Case Study under the page titled ‘Anna needs more help’, develop a set of eight interview questions that Anna can use for future interviews.
3. As part of the interview process, Anna would like to present a scenario to the ‘potential employee’ that would showcase their problem solving and communication techniques within the answer given. Develop a scenario (no more than 200 words) that Anna can use in the interview process and briefly describe the techniques that have been considered in writing the scenario.
4. In the café’s first year, Anna considered the training and development of the original staff. Using this as a basis create a 12-month training schedule that includes both existing training and development needs and potential needs/development that you consider are important for all employees at the café, now and in the future. Within the training schedule consider the needs and development of the existing staff; individually or collectively where appropriate.
5. Investing in training and development of staff has Anna wondering about how to retain good staff. How can she help them stay motivated, offering quality service to customers and loyalty to the café? Present your ideas that you think are suitable for Somby’s café.

literature use fiction to examine the political problems in a society

Throughout the textbook there are references of how various movies or literature use fiction to examine the political problems in a society or its government. I want to embrace the notion that our textbook takes using fiction and make it your signature assignment. Choose one of the three movies listed below and write a reaction paper as assigned to each movie.

The Hunger Games
Discuss the atomization of a society and how a government may use that atomization to control a population. What are some possible ramifications of that atomization? Use the movie “The Hunger Games” to explore atomization of a society. Further, explore how this atomization links to legitimacy and the use of force by the government shown in the movie.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Consider idealism and realism in terms of what we want from our political institutions and what we actually get. Also focus on the importance of rules and how they help institutions to function. Lastly, how can human nature negatively impact the work of a governing institution?

To Kill a Mockingbird
Structural violence occurs whenever a social structure, such as a norm, rule, process, or law harms a category of individuals. However, because of the diversity in the abilities and traits of human beings, any and all structures will cause structural violence by advantaging some and disadvantaging others. Consider the legal institutions in To Kill a Mockingbird to discuss the balance between the society’s need for social and political institutions and the costs they place upon individuals.

Transforming the Organization

Transforming the Organization

Congratulations! The executives are taking your information system proposal seriously. In fact, they think it has the potential to transform the way the organization works. The CIO asked you to read
Connelly (2016) to think about what resources you’ll need to get your new information system up and running. Please also review the five case studies in
(Basu 2015, p. 32-35) so you can recommend a change management pattern for your company to follow.

Write a memo to the CIO that describes how to implement your information system into the organization.
Please focus on these topics:
1.How much of the implementation work can you handle? What additional resources (people,
information, time, money, etc.) will expedite the process so you don’t end up like Susie Jeffer?
2.Outline a change management strategy: What new equipment and software are necessary? What
training and support will the staff need? How will the staff complete their work during the transition
period? Do you anticipate other areas of resistance?
3.The CIO is very skeptical, so provide evidence that your assessment is accurate and complete. It
can be difficult to admit to personal limitations!

Your memo should be 3–5 pages long

Sensation and Perception

2. Find several other examples of Gestalt laws of perception in the book or online that are not discussed in the lectures. Describe two of these laws and provide examples from your life that highlight how these work.

Business law

Metropolitan Edison Company owned and operated two nuclear-fueled power plants at Three Mile Island near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Both power plants were licensed by the NRC after extensive proceedings and investigations, including the preparation of the required environmental impact statements. When one of the power plants was shut down for refueling, the other plant suffered a serious accident that damaged the reactor. The governor of Pennsylvania recommended an evacuation of all pregnant women and small children, and many area residents did not leave their homes for several days. As it turned out, no dangerous radiation was released.

People Against Nuclear Energy (PANE), an association of area residents who opposed further operation of the nuclear power plants at Three Mile Island, sued to enjoin the plants from reopening. They argued that the reopening of the plants would cause severe psychological health damage to persons living in the vicinity and serious damage to the stability and cohesiveness of the community. Are these reasons sufficient to prevent the reopening of the nuclear power plants? Is it socially responsible for the federal government to permit the operation of nuclear power plants?
