Your paper should contain at least 10 citations from high quality external sources. A high quality source is one coming from peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, and governmental records or reports.
infant daycare
Discuss the benefits and consequences of infant daycare. This should be at least a 2 page (3 at most), double spaced paper (in APA format). You must use at least 2 outside research articles/sources to support your discussion.
Items to discuss:
1. What are the benefits of infant daycare? Are there benefits? Look at what current research says.
2. What could be some negative consequences of infant daycare? Are there any? Look at what current research says.
3. In addition, you may incorporate personal experiences, or ones of friends/family.
prostate cancer
Frank Mills is a 94-year-old widower who has been in your practice for many years. He is a retired army colonel, businessman, and college teacher with many awards and mementos on his walls in his continuing care retirement home. He requires daily support from the aides and nursing staff. He has cerebrovascular disease (CVD), hyperlipidemia, prostate cancer, glaucoma, and recurring deep venous thrombophlebitis (DVT). His diffuse degenerative lumbar arthritis with spinal stenosis has progressed and contributed to chronic back ache, leg weakness, gait instability with several recent falls, and bladder atony requiring an indwelling bladder catheter. His CVD is diffuse, with a history of transient ischemic attacks, scattered small deep lacunar infarcts, and white matter disease on magnetic resonance imaging. The CVD contributes to his gait slowness and instability. He receives bicalutamide (Casodex) and leuprolide (Lupron) treatments from an oncologist, and his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) has been low. He has not had a recurrence of his DVT or new transient ischemic attacks in the last couple years while on warfarin. His international normalized ratio is kept at around 2.0 and he has not suffered significant bleeds. For years his hyperlipidemia has been controlled with atorvastatin. His sight is declining significantly in spite of frequent ophthalmology consultations and adjustments of his glaucoma management. His mild chronic memory deficit has been more evident in recent months.
The nursing director notifies you that Mr. Mills is not eating as well as usual, and has lost about 5 lbs in 60 days. The fitness center director reports that he is not the usual enthusiastic exercise participant he had previously been.
1. Would you consider Mr. Mills to be frail, and if so, why?
2. List significant possible contributors to Mr. Mills’s functional and physiologic decline.
3. List key components of your multilevel plan of action to address this decline.
Mr. Mills requires careful broad-focused attention to his growing weakness, weight loss, and functional decline. His bladder catheter places him at risk for an occult bladder infection, which must be investigated. The status of his prostate cancer must be reviewed. Untoward effects of his medications on his appetite and well-being should be considered. The effectiveness of pain management, particularly the low back pain, must be reviewed. His ability to feed himself and swallow safely should be explored. His mood, never before a problem in his active life full of high achievements, should be assessed. With his declining gait and mental status, the possibility that a fall has led to an occult subdural bleed, particularly with his warfarin treatment, should be entertained. These issues are all addressed over the course of the following month, as is a thorough review of possible emerging new issues, but no new problems are unearthed. However, a mental status exam shows a significant decline from the previous year’s score, consistent with his growing need for the supportive services.
1. You are to meet with Mr. Mills and his daughter to summarize the findings of your investigation. What will be the major themes you will address?
2. What suggested care plan changes will you bring up?
3. What other team members do you need to collaborate with for the best outcomes for Mr. Mills?
Kolb’s Model Summary Paper
The summary paper is an opportunity for the student to demonstrate how new knowledge has been learned throughout the course. This is not the normal type of summary paper, nor is it a rehash of what was covered in discussions or an outline of the readings. You are to write a summary paper of no less than seven (7) pages single-spaced and not exceeding twelve (12) single-spaced pages. Be sure to use 1 inch margins and Times New Roman or Arial font. The paper should follow Kolb’s Model of Experiential Learning. You must demonstrate that you have grasped the key concepts covered in the course and that you are able to use them and communicate them in a functional way. Due to the nature of the paper, the beginning stages of researching and writing should be postponed until at least Week 3 of the course since the paper requires an integration of all content covered in the course. A partial sample of completed Kolb’s Model papers will be provided in Moodle. The summary paper is due on the final examination date assigned by the institution on the examination schedule.
Kolb’s Model of Experiential Learning involves a four-step process:
The first step begins with the student’s concrete experience. Concrete experience (CE) includes things like reading, consulting with others, personal research or talking with other students after the course.
The second step, Reflective Observation (RO) happens as the individual “steps back” from the experience, observes it, thinks about it and reflects. Reflection may involve noticing similarities or differences, patterns or results of certain actions.
Step three, based upon the individual’s observations and reflections, the individual makes a generalization or formulates a principle, Abstract Concepts (AC) about what was observed.
Afterward the individual applies this principle or generalization Active Experimentation (AE), step four, to see if it holds true. This process leads to new concrete experience and the process begins all over again. The individual makes new observations and reflections; based on them, formulates or refines the principle and again applies this new knowledge.
Format for Writing the Summary Paper

2. What hypotheses, rules, laws, theories, principles have I formed to explain why this is, why this happens, why this works, or does not work, why this is the same or different, why this trend pattern or relationship exists
3. Is this explanation or theory appropriate for more than one situation?
4. Would this also be true or relevant for the other persons in other situations? How can this be applied?
Active Experimentation
1. Would my knowledge be useful in other situations? How?
2. Based on this knowledge, what have I done, or what would I do?

Indigenous Religions
Write and submit a 1 page response to the following:
Describe the Lakota people’s notion of Wakan Tanka.
1.)How does this notion compare to your own understanding of God or gods?
2.) News Report on a Native American Casino in Minnesota
Then, answer the following question to check your understanding:
Do you think that the use this tribe is making of its casino revenue is prudent? Why or why not?
Evaluation & Analysis of Research Format
This assignment is a critical evaluation of research conducted by others; it is not an opinion piece. You will need to synthesize what you have learned so far this semester (study designs, interpretation of relative risk, odds ratios, data tables, etc), information learned from other classes in your course of study (history, geography, psychology, sociology), and apply critical analysis to a journal article. At a minimum, I would recommend 10 hours of effort to receive an adequate grade. A’s for this assignment range from four to eight pages of Word document on average (depending on how succinct your writing is) before being pasted into the assessment. Be detailed, be thorough; if you paste directly from the article, you will receive a 0 for the question. This single assignment is worth 100 points and translates to 12.5% of your final grade. Both assignments combined therefore are worth 25% of your final grade and are weighted in the gradebook accordingly.
I suggest you do this assignment in a word processing document beforehand. If you highlight your selected text and press and hold the CTRL button and then the C button, it will copy. You then place the cursor in the answer box in BB. Press and hold the CTRL button and then the V button and it will copy your selected text into the answer box. Save as you go.
This article critique assessment will be completed in Blackboard. It will consist of individual questions (how you see online test questions) composed of short answer and essay blocks. The following questions are provided so that you may prepare in advance. These are the exact questions you will be asked to answer:
